Commitment and Expectations
The following expectations are provided to ensure that parents and players have a complete understanding of the commitment required to participate in Simsbury Youth Football and Cheer (SYFCL).
Tackle Football Commitment
Commitment:
● Simsbury Youth Football should be your primary fall sport for all players. It is expected that SYF events be placed at a higher priority than any other sport or club during the season. Attendance at all practices and games is required. There are limited roster spots this season and each one must be filled with a committed, dedicated player.
● Any exceptions or absences are expected to be communicated in advance to the coach. It is not acceptable to not attend, arrive late or leave SYF events early without prior notice. Regardless of notice, missing scheduled practices may result in loss of playing time, game suspension or even team dismissal.
● Players and parents must understand and agree to the time commitment expectations for practices and games. Players are expected to arrive to practice and games in advance of the start time as instructed by their coach, with ALL necessary equipment (including mouth guards) and be ready to play. Players are expected to stay after games for post game talks.
● Poor behavior during practices or games may result in loss of playing time and/or expulsion from the team.
● SYFCL does follow “Minimum Play” rules as determined by the Nutmeg Youth Football League Board; however, beyond the minimum play rules, playing time will be determined by attendance in practices, attitude, and performance.
Schedule:
● Players are responsible for attending all practices. Monday- Thursday 6-8PM until the start of school. Once school begins practices will be 2 nights a week for 2 hours and 1 hour on Saturday mornings. Weekday practices TBD by each coach - but will be consistent throughout the season.
● Games will be played on Sundays - schedules with times and locations will be available in late August.
Parents:
● Parents must commit to being supportive and encouraging. They should refrain from coaching on the sidelines and may not criticize any player, other coaches or officials. If concerns arise, please speak to your child’s coach in private. Unresolved issues can also be addressed by the Simsbury Youth Football and Cheer board.
